Benedict Medal for Garden Performance
The Benedict Medal is the highest Garden Performance Award offered by The American Hosta Society. The award is named in honor of Dr. Herb Benedict, a pioneer in hosta hybridizing. It is selected from previous Award of Merit winners. Each cultivar awarded an Award of Merit becomes eligible to receive the Benedict Medal.
•Registered in 2000
•Small round, heart shaped blue leaves. Height of mature plant 6-7". Height with flower scapes is 7.5". Mound-like with moderate growth rate. Leaf: 2.75 inches long, 2.0 inches wide. Extremely thick substance, with each leaf having a tiny white edge, more pronounced in early Spring, but evident throughout the entire season. Has 8-9 pairs of veins. Dull on top, with glaucous bloom underneath leaf. Flower scape: 6-7.0 inches in length. Flowers: 0.5 inches diameter, 1.5" long, pale lavender, striped, bell shaped. Most suitable in rock gardens, or border plantings. Hated by slugs.
